Since May 2,2005, Alcovy Pet Rescue,Inc. has been a Georgia state-licensed,501(c) 3 Non-profit Organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of adoptable companion dogs, cats, and small animals in order to prevent needless euthanasia of these healthy animals. We believe that dogs and cats, as living creatures, are entitled to a quality of life with respect and compassion. Inasmuch as humans are responsible for having domesticated pets, we have a moral and ethical obligation to care for the dogs and cats, especially those we have domesticated who are abandoned, unwanted, or otherwise in need. We want to instill in our community an awareness of all the dogs and cats whose lives we share, to promote and encourage responsible dog/cat ownership and to stress the importance of spaying/neutering of all companion dogs and cats.
Hours: Tuesday - Friday: Noon - 7 p.m.
The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor supported no-kill, non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through rescue, adoption, spay/neuter, education, and pet retention programs.

Before being approved for adoption, each animal is evaluated for possible health and behavioral problems. Stray animals are held for three business days. This gives a rightful owner the necessary time to reclaim their pet if previously lost (see owner reclaim policy). Regardless of the situation these animals come from, each animal is looking for and deserves a relationship that lasts a lifetime. The HSMS encourages each new owner to realize and take on the responsibility and commitment of a new pet, but also to enjoy the joy and love each animal brings.
Adoptable Dogs at Athens-Clarke County Animal Control
Throughout our site you will see some of our beloved animals labeled as "Old Timers". This does not mean they are old in age, just that they have been in our shelter longer than others and their time is running out.
We keep all of our homeless friends as long as we possibly can but due to increasing numbers of pets being left in our care we are simply running out of room. Our old timers still deserve the most loving, caring homes possible but we have reduced their adoption fees in hopes that someone will come along and give them a second chance at a happy life.
Please consider adopting an adult dog or cat and know that by doing so you are saving a life and gaining a lifelong friend. So, take a look through our adoptable pets and read the sories of our old timers and maybe you will be able help out an animal in need. Our animals are cared for daily, requiring feeding, cleaning, grooming and socialization. We use foster homes when available. Our animals are advertised on our website and go to adoption events at Conyers and Snellville petsmart. Our cats are at Conyers, Loganville and Snellville Petsmart plus Covington Petscence. These animals must be transported back and forth to these events. We currently have 2 transport vehicles which are in need of major repairs. Our bus needs $6500 in work and our van needs $1500 in repairs.
