Dumbo Pet Supply sells Cat-Man-Doo products in Brooklyn, NY.

Maybe I’m speaking for a minority, but I haven’t been very impressed with the pet stores already in DUMBO, except the vet. I love them. Maybe it’s because I have cats and not dogs. Does anyone know if this new store has more cat supplies than the others? It would be nice to have somewhere I can pick up cat litter and cat food so I can stop ordering it.

I haven’t been in the new store yet, but I’m looking forward to checking it out. Dumbo Pet Care and Cheeky Dog primarily offer other services (daycare, boarding, grooming), and only have a few supplies. DiDi’s products all seem focused on little mini dogs. I can’t get the majority of supplies I need at any of them, so I find myself going to Petco in Union Square for almost all my supplies or buying online. Hopefully, this new business will have a wider selection of supplies.

Agreed with you there. The problem with M’sHU is that is just a nice walk over the bridge away from J&R … although I liked the idea of the store, I havent needed to go in there yet. I give the new pet store a few months before they realise they wasted their money moving here. I hate to sound like a hater, but diversity is going to be a key part of developing Dumbo as a shopping destination.

That's what a lot of pet stores around here do. If it's blue, it costs more than everything else. If it's dumbo, it costs more. If it's hairless, look out, those are a fortune! $20 is the normal price for "pet" rats from a pet store. has a large selection of small animal supplies Portland! We carry everything you need to keep your small furry friends happy and healthy: bedding, specialized food options, toys, habitats, treats, vitamins… we have it all in the small animal supplies section of our pet store! We cater to rat, , ferret, guinea pig, hamster, mouse, gerbil, and rabbit owners. On top of , we also carry an exciting and always-changing selection of live small animals available for purchase, including dumbo rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, fancy mice, and more!”I believe the dumbo rumor started partly because the rats tend to have a more "innocent look" to them and partly because they were originally bred by responsible fancy breeders who were trying to breed friendly animals. However, the standard-eared rats from responsible breeders are exactly as friendly--no more and no less, and dumbo rats from pet store/feeder lines are just as nervous and poorly socialized as their standard-eared counterparts. The appearence of a rat is just that--appearence. Their family history and their raising is what makes the difference. The same goes for mice, hamsters, and gerbils. Don't get fooled by pet store labels/prices. Those "feeder rats" probably came from the same litters as the "fancy rats", "dumbo rats", "Rex rats", etc., and have just as good a chance of being great (or bad) pets. The "breed" that makes the best pet is any rat from a responsible breeder. So, let's knock off the "rodent racism"...
