Soft crates are a great choice for dogs that are easily contained. If your dog does not chew or try to escape his crate, a soft crate would easily hold him. Because of their light weight, these types of crates are great for traveling and can also be moved around the house very easily. Most soft crates can be used indoors or outside, making them ideal for the outdoorsy dog owner.A lot of dog owners like the aesthetics of a soft crate over a metal or wooden crate. In product reviews, many dog owners stated that soft crates look much more inviting than the metal or wooden options. Other crates look more like a cage, which makes pet owners feel terrible about locking their dog inside, but soft crates look cozy and den-like.If you think a soft crate may be a good choice for your dog, the Pet Gear Generation II Deluxe Portable Soft Crate would be a great option. Pet Gear Home 'N Go Deluxe dog crates - Dogtime
I travel to dog shows and classes (agility) every week with my three dogs, and they now all have one of these crates. I've bought several other brands/styles over the years, but the PetGear is my all-time favorite. It's very easy to set up, and it folds up pretty flat (maybe 3") for traveling and storage. These also seem to last much longer than the other brands, and mine get a LOT of use. You'll love that your dog can enter either from the short (front) or long side. I'm not sure this would be ideal for crate-training a puppy as a nervous or untrained dog could probably tear his way out -- a hard-sided crate would be better for that. But for everything else, this crate is perfect.
