Another struggle is our name. Even though we’ve worked hard to get the Rockwall Pets brand out there, our adoption events and foster homes are primarily in Rockwall County. It’s hard to look for support from the Dallas Community when they don’t understand the connection. We’re not going to change our name though. We’re proud of our roots! If a little group of volunteers from Rockwall county can make a difference, imagine what change we can all bring working together!

At Rockwall Pets, our mission is to save every precious life possible. That’s why nearly every pet we offer for adoption was at risk of being put down at an area animal shelter. We believe in these pets, so we rescue them, give them full veterinary care and then place them into loving homes.

Austin Pets Alive’s pledge to turn Austin into a no-kill city – meaning that 90 percent or more of the animals in local shelters are adopted out, rather than euthanized – did not just save shelter cats and dogs in town. When Michael Kitkoski heard that Austin achieved no-kill status in March of 2011, he persuaded the shelter director in Rockwall to let him try replicating APA’s success.Rockwall Pets is an all-volunteer group that began in 2010 and brought the Rockwall Shelter to “No Kill” status. In 2012, the group became a nonprofit, “No Kill” advocacy group and rescue. Every pet available through Rockwall Pets is spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (dogs), feline leukemia tested (cats) and fully vaccinated. Heartworm positive dogs are treated and some pets require surgery and/or medication before they can be placed for adoption.Rockwall Pets is an all-volunteer Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit company formed by dedicated No Kill advocates. We use innovative programs to get pets out of shelters alive. Shelter killing is the number one cause of death for healthy dogs and cats in the United States. Statistics prove there are more than enough homes for all homeless pets. We believe that by convincing more people to adopt instead of buying their next dog or cat, we can save the lives of pets who are currently being put down in area shelters. Nearly every pet we have available for adoption is a healthy or treatable pet who was at risk of being killed at a shelter. Our ultimate goal is to help make Texas one of the first No Kill states in America. We'd love to have you on the team...and so would the pets we save! Find out about volunteering or fostering today!Concerned over the lack of attention being paid to adoptions and customer service at the Rockwall municipal shelter, two shelter volunteers began Rockwall Pets in June 2010. The original focus was off-site adoptions and marketing of adoptable pets. We launched a web site, , to focus on adoptable pets. We began marketing every adoptable pet and managing the Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet databases for the shelter. We made ourselves the shelter’s adoption “experts” by attending classes, reading books and attending webinars. We began a focus on customer service.
